
Dathan B. Williams' directing career covers Shakespeare, original musical works, Theater for Young Artists and Cabaret. He recently directed Measure for Measure for Flagler College, Moana, Jr. for Rubicon Theater Company, he wrote and Co-directed Shall I Compare Thee - The Sonnet Project for Southwest Shakespeare , served as Assistant Director and dramaturge for The Agitators for Theater at Monmouth, revisited and directed Harlem Shakespeare's Zoom presentation of Leah Maddrie's Just About Love and made his Off-Broadway debut directing Richie McCall's one man show Stepin' and Me for The New Federal Theater new play reading cycle.
As the Artistic Associate Director of The Harlem Shakespeare Festival, we focused on inclusive, diverse and equal access casting that specializes in giving center stage opportunities to classically trained BIPOC actors using classical works and the plays of William Shakespeare.
Directed productions for HSF include the recent 2020 Zoom production of Just About Love, his own adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, set in post Civil War Louisiana among the free people of color, the world premier of Leah Maddrie's Just About Love, a new adaptation of All’s Well That Ends Well set during Freedom Summer 1965, his co-authored work: The Sable Series: The History of Black Shakespearean Actors, which was part of the Warwick University and Shakespeare Trust’s Shakespeare On the Road project, The War of the Roses - Henry VI Parts 1-3, as well a reverse sex version of Measure for Measure. As a Teaching Artist for Disney Theatricals Musical’s in Schools Program he directed The Aristocats (with 40 District 75 students on the spectrum), Aladdin and The Jungle Book.

He is honored as an Adjunct Professor or Guest Lecturer to have taught the craft of Acting on all levels at Brooklyn College, Syracuse University, Hunter College, The City College of New York, Dixie State University and Cornell University.
